Why Won't We Service Chrome Plated Items?
Fairwater Coatings, LLC does not utilize potentially harmful chemicals that require special handling and disposal. Most chrome plating is best removed utilizing means such as hydrochloric acid or chrome electrode baths which are complex and expensive processes that are potentially hazardous.
Fairwater Coatings, LLC removes material that hinders powder coat binding using mechanical and environmentally safe means, primarily sand blasting. Chrome plating can vary in thickness, but regardless is a low friction metal with extremely high hardness and corrosion resistance, making it difficult to sand blast away and impossible to remove using environmentally friendly chemical strippers.
It is more time and therefore cost effective for customers to have their chrome plated plated parts chemically stripped to bare metal prior to bringing your parts in for coating.
